                                    A LETTER TO MY 2 YEARS AGO SELF

By this time two years ago I was in a dilemma, at that point, I had received my employment letter from Teach for Nigeria and though I was excited about the role, I was scared and anxious about how things would pan out; moving from Jos, Plateau State to Ijebu-Ode in Ogun state. I wondered if I would fit into that environment considering that I did not understand the Yoruba language.

Right now I look at those moments and I smile because if I had the opportunity to meet my 2 years ago self, I would have alot of things to say:

Ah! Agnes, you worry too much, I understand that this trait makes you over plan and over prepare which will be a plus as time goes on but babe, I need you to CALM DOWN (in Rhema's voice) because everything panned out well at the end of your fellowship infact you did amazing.

You see this your work ethic, it would take you very far, infact, it would stand you out. My advice is for you to not get overly anxious or stressed but one thing that stands you out is the fact that you always bring your 'A' game, keep that up!

Girl! Trust your instincts, the next couple of months will shake you at your very core, always find out actions or decisions that are not consistent with who you are on the inside, when you do, do the needful- adjust! At the very least strive to be a better you every day.

You'll meet people who will teach you lessons and others who will help you and even hold you by the hand on your way to sucess, listen,learn and be open-minded.

This path you're about to take is one with a lot of responsibilities, at many different points, you'll be placed in charge of people, resources, and projects, and guess what? You perform excellently well, coming out of those experiences as a better leader, manager, and friend so don't be afraid to take initiative, volunteer or step up.

I am excited about how visionary you become after this experience, I cannot quantify the joy you get knowing that this role allowed you identify problems, come up with solutions, and actually implement them in real life, you'll have a lot of fun in this aspect.

You're right! you actually don't need everyone to be your friend or even like you, this journey will open your eyes to self-love and appreciation. It will also make you value the people who are already in your life and the people that actually matter.

So, babe, I don't need you over-stressing about how things will go, all you need to bring to the table is the real you, that you- is good enough!

Teaching 9-10 Subjects per day: A blessing or a Curse.

The moment I started teaching my first lessons in my placement school, I knew from that moment that I was only going to be racing against time and the structures put in place to facilitate normal academic activities. Personally, I liked to access the situation of things with my learners before I go ahead to figure out what the best approach for a particular topic would be and since I was sure that most of my learners in primary 4 should be sent back to primary 1 I knew that there was a lot of work cut out for me. PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS TEACHING MULTIPLE SUBJECTS. YEH/NEH

If you are a primary school teacher and you teach more than one subject raise your hand.  Do you have subjects you know you have to do more research on before you feel confident teaching them? Do you sometimes feel the need to recheck and double-check things in one or more subjects compared to others? Are there subjects you have outright joy and confidence teaching compared to others? Are there times you wish you just stick to some of these subjects instead of having to pack up everything? To be honest, I understand that most school facilities cannot afford to pay individual teachers to handle each subject, I understand that they expect primary school teachers to know and understand the basic subjects well enough to teach them at preliminary levels, BUT! Are we experimenting with the next generation of Nigerians or are we giving them the best that there is? Our pupils deserve to have the best from every teacher and a teacher can only be his best self if he is teaching what he feels...
